Expecting Love

valentines-day

To all the lonely hearts.

expect

Loneliness doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t matter if you are alone or together. Married or single. Young or old.

Today is the day where together is celebrated, a holiday for having someone. If you do not have a “someone,” then I estimate that you probably don’t like this day. Today is a day where many do have someone, but, still, don’t like this day. I believe that anyone who is not cherished and acknowledged as so would probably rather take a pass on the hearts, flowers and chocolate.

If you don’t feel cherished, if you feel lonely……I see you. I hear you. And I want to tell you that you are loved.

You are loved with an everlasting love.

Jeremiah 31:3 says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.”

I love that it says, “have.” It doesn’t say “will.” I will if you do this or that or don’t do this or that. If you are smart enough, good enough, pretty enough, kind enough…whatever enough. No, it says . . .  this is something I’ve already been doing. I’ve been loving you with an everlasting, eternal, love before you were, as you are, and forever more. In the Message translation it says, “ Expect love, love, and more love!” It’s hard to expect love when we don’t feel loved, when we have allowed ourselves to expect love from others only to experience rejection or when we feel lonely. But this is what is asked of us. And it’s never a risk because THIS LOVE never rejects, it only accepts.

Today, I’m not looking for roses, chocolate (I’m good at buying that for myself), or grand gestures, I’m simply expecting love, love, and more love. I hope you will too.

I don’t have many words, or catchy ones, today. I only wanted to tell you that you are loved–past, present, and future–and to encourage you to expect love. This is the cure for a lonely heart.
